So, Let’s Say It!

Lets say it

Recently I have been wrestling with Jesus’ words, “He that confesses me before men, him will the Father confess before the angels in heaven. He that denies me, him will the Father also deny before the angels.” Matt 10:32,33  Pretty strong stuff, huh? Certainly there are numerous ways to confess or deny. But one that’s been haunting me is our confession or denial in everyday conversation.

When you’re asked, “How are you doing?”, compose a short response and use it. A cashier at the super market asked me, “How you doing?” “I’m rejoicing in the Lord I’m alive today.”  Two days later, a cashier asked, “How’s it going for you today, sir?” I said, “I’ve got  a lot of problems to work through, but the Lord has promised wisdom, so I’m claiming his promise right now.”  As I picked up my  grocery bag to leave, she laid her hand on my arm and said, “Thank you. So have I. I needed that encouragement  today myself.”

My daughter, boarding a shuttle to take her from the car rentals to the airport, observed restless, impatient, and complaining passengers. The young driver loaded them patiently, apologizing for the delay. He moved baby strollers, wheelchair, luggage, and car seats as quickly and politely as he could. When the bus arrived at the airport and the passengers were exiting,  my daughter tipped the driver well even though she only had a carry-on. “Thank you,” she said, “you’ve been a real blessing to me.”  His reply:  “I can be a blessing because I am blessed by the Blessor.”

Let’s think through the usual questions we’re asked and respond with short encouragements or praises to the Lord. Then we’ll form the habit of practicing Psalm 107:2, “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so.” Since our culture denies Him, we can be a “remnant” who confesses we still hope, trust, and believe in a Creator God.

  2. Great and timely words of wisdom!! “Let’s say it” is something ALL of us do ALL the time, often without thinking of the opportunities to bless. As we leave tomorrow for our trip to Utah, I’ll practice making my often many words more meaningful and honest. God bless you for both your written and spoken words, always an encouragement to me and honoring to our Lord! love Janey
